A letter from ts-e South African Olympic Games Association was received to-day by the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association advising that an invitation had 'been received for the African athletes to participate ill athletic, contests at Hie British Empire Exhibition Stadium, and requesting ->ew Zealand support lor the suggestion that the Exhibition authorities should grant financial assistance towards the expenses of dominion visiting teams. The letter was referred to the New Zealand Olympic Council. Advice was received by the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association today that the Australasian cross-coun-try championship will be held at Sydney on August 25, and the New South Wales cross-country championship on August 18th. A New Zealand team would be very welcome. The course selected is the ltandwick steeplechase track and the distance is live miles. Entries close on August 11. The council approved of the projected seven-mile walking championship of Australia, to lie held every two years, future dates to he decided by the 19234 conference at Hobart, The council suggested that the contest should be held by the same State at the same date as the Australasian cross-country championship. It was decided to inform centres that the New Zealand cross-country championship will take place not later than August 4. also to ask centres what financial support they are prepared to give towards sending a New Zealand team for the Australasian cross-country championship.
