THE NOVELTY BAZAAR AND POSTER PARADE
A FINANCIAL SUCCESS. The Bazaar concluded at Princess Theatre last night, and at an appropriate interval ,in the proceedings Hon. 11. L. Miclul M.L.C., President of the Hokitika Beautifying Association, on behalf of which the function was organised, announced a very satisfactory financial issue to the event. The total receipts for the two nights were about £l7O. Air Michel thanked cue and all for the help rendered. He praised the. stall holders for the amount of work put into their labor oi of love; Airs Wilson and those associated with her. including Airs Houston at tlie piano, for the specially attractive programme provided; all who competed in the parade, mid for the public who subscrilied so well. The Association, he said, was formed a little over two years ago, and had now raised over £7OO, all of which was I cing devote dto help beautify the town. Its work, if to be eariied on usefully, would, occasion regular appeals to tlio public, and judging by the present losponsc the wink of the Association was being appreciated. The entertainment was again splendidly received. The march had to he repeated and the other items, including the miith-provoking burlesque, was no Jess enjoyed. M;r Fennell, of Groymoutli, sang two songs vo.iy pleasingly. As before the Poster contest was of great interest to the public, and crowds waited for the result to he announced. There were. ,‘1.2(12 votes to tally ii]>. and that was no light task. Hon Michel, who presented the prizes, announced the result as Idlows :
First—Miss Urquhart, Duncan and Coy. Second,—Miss Borton. Clements Motors Led. Third, —Miss Leslie, Jubilee Hokitika Gas Coy. Fourth,—Miss Lock, Osram electric light. The- announcement was received "ith great applause, and cheers for Airs " ilson (the organiser) and the Posters. The doll and trousseau were won by Airs S. Clements, of Hampden Street, and the art curtains by J. A. Shearer, Hari Hari. Tiie Bazaar closed shortly before 11 o’clock with the singing of the National Anthem.
