FOOTBALL.

— SEVEN-ASIDE TOURNAMENT. BIG DAY OF PLAY. The Westland Sub-Union seven-aside tournament took place on Cass Square yesterday, with play from 9.30 o’clock until dark, with a break of a couple of hours while the Burns memorial was being unveiled. The heavy rain in the early morning made the ground heavy hut the play was ol a very interesting nature throughout, most ol the games being well contested. The various officials were very attentive and the games were played off in good time, except ihat the lasi game was finished ■n the dark. The referees for the day were Messrs A. Cutlmsh, E. AA . I Teenan, AY. A. Wilson. TL Dowell, N. W'ogan, O. Walker and Gillooly, and there was an absence of any disputes, and very few hard knocks received, though the play was being continually stopped fnun minor causes. So” piloting it over with a nice k.ck early in the play, and nearly scored shortly after from a nice passing run. Then Excelsiors had the best of the game till ends were changed. Hari Hari showed to advantage in the opening stages, but Excelsiors worked well together, n fine run by Neil AA ogan being a feature. Then from a passing run nearly on time. Aitken scored ana Ross converted. At the conclusion of the final of the

juniors, the last game played, tlie President (Mr E. McGregor) congratulated the winners on their success and the playes generally on their play, then presenting the Shield to the Captain of the Excelsior team (L. Ross) and the trophy for the juniors to the Kiwi team (S. Breeze).
