At the Supreme Court to-day John Henry Johnson, a hawker, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for indecently assaulting a married woman at Petone, 110 had been ■ pievionsly convicted of a sexual offence. Tho Crown Prosecutor characterised the assault as a dastardly one. BOY KILLED. AUCKLAND, June 3. A boy named Orva! Fisher, aged 16 years, was killed on a train on Saturday afternoon. He was returning to town with a football team, and apparently had climbed on the roof ot the carriage. He was struck by an overhead bridge, falling to the ground. He was dead when picked up. HIGHWAYS BOARD. WELLINGTON, June The Minister of Public Works, the Hon J. G. Coates, stated that the Cabinet has approved of the personnel of th.e new Highways Board. He had communion!ed with the gentlemen appointor!. As soon as he was informed whether or not they are prepared to act, he would make the announcement. ELECTION VOIDED. TAUAIARUNUT, June 2. Mr Platts, the Magistrate, heard two petitions arising from alleged -egularities in the triennial election for Kaitieke County Council, and declared the election in Owhango Riding void on account of impersonation by an elector. He dismissed a petition in the Ranrimu Riding alleging certain electors were bribed by a candidate. An Owhango elector was ordered to pay costs. Tho Magistrate said no blame attached to the returning officer.
SEAMAN’S DEATH. AUCKLAND, June 5. Patrick Gunn, a seaman on tho steamer Koromike. fell from the wharf last night. When rescued, life was extinct. A gash on the head indicated lie had lieett severely injured in falling. He was aged 03 and his wife and family reside at AYellington. Patrick Ryan, who dived to rescue Guun, was assisted back to the wharf and hospitulled, having an injury to his ribs.
