Wallace Davidson, the eight-year-old son of Mr C. C. Davidson, of Morrinsville, was tossed by an intonated cow in one of the main streets of the town. The cow had escaped from the Farmers' Auctioneering Company's stock yards, where a sale was being conducted, and. pursued by drovers, rushed down the main street, which at the time was crowded with country visitors. After making attempts to toss a couple of children the cow turned at Mr Davidson's boy. who was caught in the hack by the cow s horns anil tossed several feet in the air, falling on the broad of his hack. The child is suffering from concussion, shock and injuries from the animal’s horns. The father witnessed the accident, hut was too far away to help his child.

Another of tho old pioneers passed away on Thursday in the person of Mr Robert Gifford, tit his rseideuce in Arney Street. Greymouth. Mr Gifford arrived on the West Coast about s*l years ago. and took an active part in gold-niiuing. For some time he was digging oil Barbie's Terrace, near Berry town, hut later went to No Town, where In* had a claim on Candlelight Crook. About five years ago, Mr Gilford left No Town and came to Greyrnouth, where he has resided ever since. He leaves a wife, one married daughter. Mrs S. Robertson, and a son Edward, who is working at Otira.
