NO SPAHLINCER SERUM.
TESTS HELD CP. General Sir Frederick Maurice is organising privately a number of jhilan-t'ii-cj.ists who will probably issue a public appeal for funds lo enable Dr. Henri Spablinger, the young Sv. is< doctor, to continue his research work, end to provide Spablinger serum for the treatment of tuberculosis. “Tlio .Ministry of Health are anxious to test the new scrum,” said an official to a London “Daily Express” representative iciently, "but up to the present we have not born able to obtain a spoon fill.
“Dr. Spablinger hits spent all bis private funds and those of his father in producing ihe serum. It is said that lie has not accepted a penny of remuneration for his services or for out-
of-pocket expenses, ami now he is tin able, for lack of funds, to provide serum for independent tests:”
.Many medical men—who have -unideprivate investigations have returned convinced of tile value of the serum The profession generally, however, is not satisfied on certain points. ‘■Good results in, say, Mentone, may not mean goud results in the English climate," said a medical authority. "Wo should like further enlightenment on certain points, such as: How are the lemedies prepared? llow are they standardised ? How many cases have been treated? At what clinical stage?
How long observed ? How many are now ‘well.' ‘improved.’ ‘stationary.’ ‘worse,’ ‘(load'?” These queries can be cleared up only by independent investigation. The Health .Ministry are tpiite ready to carry out further investigations, hut they cannot do so until they receive a supply of the serum. Cntil Dr. Spahliugor receives further monetary support. Knglaud will not have an opportunity of testing the serum, and thousands of tuberculosis patients must continue to sutler from the ravages of the disease.
