CHINESE BANDITS.

AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. CHINESE PANDITS CAPTIVES. (Received this day at 8.30 a.m.') WASH IXGTOX. May 24. The American Minister (Mr Schurman) at Pekin, has informed the Stale Department that the presidential polities were serious and complicated. Sehurma.i advises against any change in the present plan of negotiating through the Chinese authorities and indicates the diplomatic corns is not considering military action by foreign troops. A commission which will investigate the whole situation is composed of commanders of foreign troops in China.

TROOPS START ATTACK. (Received this day at 9.2 d a.inA PEKIN, -May 2d. Reports from l.inehong area state that the Government troops have begun the attack against the bandits. Ihe troops -are cutting off the latter s communications and drawing the surroundin" cordon closely. The bandits have framed new terms, which virtually demand that the entire province planting shall he put into the power of the bandits, that the troops withdraw, and that the bandits be given ranks in tlie army.
