She will leave for Nelson early next month. Mr Michael Kano, for 40 years a resident of tire Inangaliua district, died at Jteofton H spital on Tuesday, at ’lie ago of 70 years. He was it single man and a native of County Waterford, Ireland.

A fire which completely destroyed the dwelling of Mr George Honey, took place nt the Kumara Junction on Tuesday morning at about two o’clock. Nothing was saved with tho exception of two or three blankets and a couple of pictures. Mr Honey is said to tinve allowed the insurance on his furniture to run out about a. fortnight ago.

Tho Sale of Work at St. Mary's Club rooms was opened yesterday and though the weather was unfavourable good business was done at the various stalls. In addition to the stalls already mentioned there is also a cake stall, where patrons can get their wants supplied with the very daintiest cakes and pastry. Oil Saturday afternoon and evening there will lie a special line of homemade bread, tho quality of which can bo guaranteed.

The weekly euchre tournament at Stow’s rooms in aid of the R.S.A. building fund has lost none of its popularity. There was again last evening a full attendance, and the competition was pleasantly enjoyed. Mrs I,vim won the lady's prize of a ease of fruit after playing off with Mrs l.akin, while Mr l». Muir won the gent’s prize, (a safety razor outfit) after playing off with Mr McWhinnoy. Mesdanies Gillooly and Brown junr. won the consolation prizes. Supper was served as usual, and a very enjoyable time passed. Iho prizes for next Thursday’s tournament will be a damask table-cloth for the lady winning the most games in the evening, and a 2olb. of Hour for the gent’s prize.
