A preliminary practice of the Poster Parade for the Beautifying Bazaar will bo held at tho Supreme Hall to-night at 7.30 o’clock sharp to arrange for regular practices of marches etc. All those who have promised to take part in the entertainment are invited to attend.—Advt.
Tho regular weekly euchre tournament in aid of tho R.S.A. building fund was held at Stow’s rooms last night and was well attended. The prizes were won by Aliss Thorpe (two dishes presented by Airs Aldo), Air T. Brown (gift of wine) and Airs Keller and Afr Roy Paterson, consolation prizes. For next Thursday the lad\ s prize will be a case of fruit from Turner’s fruit market, and the gent s, n safety razor outfit presented through Paterson and Lloyd of South Revell street.

We deeply regret having to record the death of Mrs King, wife of Mr Albert King of Gibson Quay, which tuok place this morning. Tho deceased was a native of Hokitika and 40 years of ago. She leaves a bereaved husband, and a family of six (four daughters and two sons) one being a newly born infant. Very sincere sympathy will be extended to the husband and family in their sad loss.
Messrs D. J. Evans (Hokitika), and W. A. Stapleton (Reefton) have been elected Country Club representatives to tho New Zealand Racing Conference to sit at Wellington in July, on behalf of tho Greymouth District Racing Clubs. Messrs D. J. Evans, W. B. Gilbert, A. Pcrotti, W. E. Williams and F. McGregor, wore elected Country Club delegates to the Greymouth District Racing Committee. The term of election is for two years.
A remit from tho Greymouth branch of' the R.S.A. dealing with conscientious objectors was introduced on Wednesday at Christchurch, at the district annual conference of that body by Mr A. 11. McKano, who represented the Greymouth and the Hokitika branches. The remit was as follows:—“This Association regrets the action of tlio N'.Z. R.S.A. Headquarters in asking all Rugby Unions to expel conscientious objectors from their ranks, as we are of the opinion that no good can conic from it, and, further, we submit that it is outside the constitution ol the R.S.A. to interfere in such matters.” Mr McKano said that be did not wish it to he thought that ho ,vas putting up a light for conscientious objectors. The position, however, was that the people bad already' been punished by being deprived of civic rights for tho* attitude taken up by them in regard to the war. The chairman (Milt fit. Bell) said that the remit was not in order, as headquarters bad not passed any such motion in regard to_ conscientious objectors only. Mr MoKane: A technical point. Tho chairman: It is not correct, in fact. Mr McKano went on to state that the question was one which interfered with returned soldieis, some of whom sympathised with conscientious objectors. The remit was with-drawn.
