< IiRfSTCH ri!CH, May In. The steel screw steamer Opilii has been purchased by the Union Steam Ship Company ITom .Messrs Reese Bros, of Christchurch.
'i be vessel, which preiion-ly was the barque Lilia, was, prior to being no liveried into a steamer, in use at Wellington as a coal hulk. Owing to the scarcity of ships during the war and the high freights available, Messrs Reese Bros., who had bought and salvaged the engines of the Opouri. which was wrecked ;ii Gicymoltth, secured the hulk l.illa, and she was brought- t'o L> Helton and converted into a steamer by .Messrs Andersons, Ltd. On completion in 1917, the vessel made a trip to the United Kingdom and European purls, and upon returning was placed in the Lyttellon-Neweastle trade, and he terly in the LytuTtun-Auckland t rude.
The Opihi is a vessel of 1117 gross Lin:-. The hull was built in 188(1 at Rostoeker. Iler principal dimensions arc :—Length, 208.0 ft; breadth, 34. Git; depth, 10.7 ft. Her average speed is about ten knots. The vessel left for Auckland last
ight, and the Union Company will ake her over when she returns.
