THE U.S.S. ONTARIO.

DEPARTS FROM NEW ZEALAND.

AUCKLAND, May 1-5 The U.S.S. Ontario left tor Pago Pago, Samoa, this morning. Prior to her departure Captain Pollock expressed the appreciation of himself and officers for the hospitality and eourleousness extended to them in New Zealand. He said:—“Aon ceitaiulv have a wonderful country and the plans for the future of New Zealand impressed me more than anything el.-e, not only as to their extentbut by the farsightedness shown in them. The people of New Zealand are a live people and judging from "hat they did in the world war it seems that when they have started oft' to do something, nothing is going to stop them. We are leaving with ineffaceable memories of kindness and courtesies in common with the hospitality of their Excellencies, Lord and Lady Jellicoe. Their many kindnesses and courtesies, in common with the hospitality of your Government and people, call for more eloquence than the American Governor of Samoa commands.”

Capt. Pollock also acknowledged the courtesies received from the naval authorities, remarking: "We were able to ask for anything we wanted, just as though we bad been part of the British Navy.’”

Fa re well visits were paid to Capt. Pollock by the Governor-General, the Mayor, and Chairman of the Harbour Board.
