RETURNED SOLDIERS’ CLUB.
Tlie campaign for funds for the a Live is progressing satisfactorily. Saturday was Soldiers’ Sale Day and tho Depot in Re.veil street was under the charge of Alesdnines McWhirtcr and Stuart. Tho receipts' for the day approximated £2l. For the three Saturdays tho Depot has been open, the total receipts have reached about £75. The management greatly appreciates the spontaneous help from many generous donors who are sending forward goods for sale every fortnight. The country people at Kokatnhi. Koiterangi and Arahura have responded well’ and the help lias been very welcome.
On. Saturday night an hour’s concert was given from tha balcony- of the Dominion Hotel kindly placed at the disposal of the performers by Mr and Airs Nightingale. The balcony which was lit by electric light, proved an excellent vantage point for the purpose. An instrumental quartette Ali.ss Pnscoe (piano), Alessrs Bounetti (violin), Christensen (cornet), and Gifford (bass), rendered .a. number of selections while Mesd nines Hunter and Lynn sang it duet “ Don’t You Remember the Time” and Air D. Roberts (Boss) a solo, “The Veteran’s Song.” A collect ion was taken up hv some ladies and returned men. yielding about £l. The Supremo Hall passes into the possession of the Returned Soldiers this week ami is to be moved across the street at the week-end. The foundation for the hall and for the oxtensions including also the new mindiiiir to form the club room is being put down in concrete. Timber is now being placed on the ground for the additions to the hall and no tune is to l>e lost in placing it in commission again. Saturday, May 26th. will be the next Soldiers’ Sale Day and at night there will he a Dark Town Parade and a Community Sing Song from the balcouj of the Dominion Hotel. Airs Hunter, of the Pioneer Hotel, will be in charge of the Depot, and is organising several special attractions. Gilts for the da> may he sent to Airs Hunter or left at the Depot, Revell street, whore Air j ,p Breeze will kindly take charge of the articles. ________
