.A meeting of the Judicial Committee of the AYestland Sub-Union was held on Saturday evening. Present:— Messrs F. .McGregor, Alichel, Sellers and Benjamin. The Committee was asked to deal with Lite report of the referee (Mr Giiloolv) in the United Hari liari senior match on Saturday week at llari Hari in which a player (Churchoiisc) was reported for tackling a player after the whistle had gone for a mark. After hearing the referee and the player the Committee deided to caution Churcliouse, pointing out that while upholding the action of the referee, they wished to point out that the playing of the man instead ol the hull must, be stopped, and it was only ilue to the mitigating references made by the referee that further action was not taken. In connection with a complaint made by the relereo (Mr Gillooly) dealing with the encroaching of spectators oil to the ground at Hari llari the Committee conveyed to Air MeKav (Captain of the Hari Hari team) the request that the Club take action to prevent a recurrence of similar action, it being pointed out how unfair it was to platers, especially visitors, who were unable to guage where the side lilies actually were. Air McKay agreed to place the matter before his Club’s Committee and promised attention. The Judicial Committee resolved to report to the SubUnion accordingly.

During the past week the mails from outside the AA’est Coast had been held up, and it was only on Friday night late that a AA’ellington and Christchurch mail came to hand. Naturally there has been a more than usual interest shown in the receipt of mail matter, and when it was known on Saturday that a Christchurch mail was coming through that night, there was much disappointment yesterday morning to find that the mail that reached Hokitika about 11 p.m., hail not boon sorted. Numerous persons visited the private box lobby during the day in the hope of finding the mail sorted, without result. An enquiry of the Postmaster (Air Coles) at 5 p.m. when the telephone office opened for the day, elicited the information that there was no mail staff on duly on Sundays anil that the mail would not he sorted till Monday morning. A little later the Postmaster advised the enquirer that the mail would he sorted within an hour, before 7 p.m., and this was done. Bv that time, however, hope of receiving mails that day hail been given up by most people. The matter of the sorting of mails is of some importance and it is a matter for regret, in the special circumstances that have prevailed during tho past week, that the convenience of the private box holders could not have been studied more. At is a matter that the local Chamber of Commerce might make enquiry info with advantage.
