He was formerly a captain in the Russian army, and only just arrived at Lausanne from Zurich. At first it was stated that the assassin belonged to the Fascisti, hut this is nowdenied. It is known, however, that tiie Fascisti tried two days ago to persuade Vnrowsky to leave Lausanne. They called at his hotel, hut he refused to see them. It was known they wore using throats. Ahrens, after the shooting, made a statement as follows : “When we sat down to dinner I noticed an elegantly dressed young man seated two tallies away. He was drinking continuously small glasses of cognac. When lie rose I saw the muzzle of his revolver pointing directly at the back of Yormvsky’s head. Vorow«ky was shot at point blank range and was killed instantly. I tried to grab the revolver, blit was too late. I was shot in the leg and fainted. I fell over Yorowsky’s corpse. Ahrens’ condition had improved at mid-night, when he made the following statement: “I formally accuse the Swiss Government of being accomplices in this murder, hoeau.se, despite the measures against us, no precautions were taken to safeguard us.” ■Ahrens is dying. The name of the third man is Dimitrieff. not Stuhmer. Dimitrieff is the secretary of the delegation. The severely wounded murderer, having emptied his revolver, turned to the horror-stricken guests and said calmly: “Well call the police. I don’t regret what I have done.” Ho then awaited the arrival of the police, with whom lie left the hotel quietly. LAUSANNE, 'May 11.
Aluens also accuses the secretariat of the Conference of doing everything to render the situation of the Russian delegates untenable. Conrad, while waiting for the police lighted a cigarette. Questioned as to wliv lie murdered Vorowsky, he replied : “To avenge my father and uncle, who wore victims of Bolshevism. Humanity is rid of the monster.” Vorowsky was known to he one of Lenin’s tools when the Bolsheviks, with Lenin at their head went from Switzerland to Russia. Vorowsky was left in Stockholm on route, and the money sent from Berlin for tlie first Bolshevik rising in June, 1917, went through Vorowsky’s hands. Later lie was the Bolshevik representative at Stockholm hut was transferred to Rome. Ho attended the first Lausanne Conference with Tchitcherin. During the Fascisti coup in Romo last September the Fascisti entered his house and endeavoured to force him to drink a pint of castor oil, but he was saved from this ordeal at the last moment.
