A Chicago message states that Lord Curzdn, on behalf of his three daughters by, his first wife, lias joined Lady Hyde (of Suffolk and Berkshire) in a suit alleging mismanagement by Joseph Leiter and Mrs Colin Campbell of the late I.evi Leiter’s estate. He was a Chicago millionaire and left his wealth to the first Lady Curzon, Lady Hyde, Mis Campbell and Joseph Leiter, his four children, naming the last two as co-trustees. Disputes between the heirs have existed for years, finally resulting in a law. suit asking for a removal of the co-trustees. COTTON SHORTAGE. WASHINGTON, May 8. The Department of Commerce has issued ail estimate of the existing world stocks of cotton, indicating that when the year ends on July 31st. there will he carried over lor tile following year onlv half as much cotton as was carried over on July 31st. 1922. This is due to the increased world consumption. There was available for the current year 27,291,091) hales, and the world consumption daring the first eight months totalled 14,281,000 hales, thus if the consumption continues at the same rate during the last four months, the tota consumed will be 22,922,009 bales, and there will remain for the following yeai 4,370.009 hales, compared with 9,03h,000 halos remaining at July 31st. 1922. The American carry-over of stocks at the last named date was 5,123,000 bales, and it is estimated the carry-over oi stocks as at July 31st., 1923, will he onlv 1.429,000 bales. The Department points out thaf this indicates the norld is facing a most serious shortage Oi cotton. The figures caused great excitement on the New \ ork Cotton Exchange, prices going up four dollars ,> e r bale within a short tune.
