THE DAIRY POOL.

DETAILS OF PROPOSALS. AVELLINGTON, May 2. The main outline of plans for the dairy pool was communicated to the Dominion Fanners’ Union executive today by Mr E. AY. Hubbard (Palmerston North), who expressed the strong opinion that if New Zealand producers could come move directly into contact with the consumers in Great Britain it would he much better for the producers here. He thought it would he an advantage if a hoard in London and other parts at Home should procure oi erect cool stores of sufficient capacity to hold, say, half New Zealand’s annual export output. If that were done. New Zealand could take immediate advantage of any rise in price which might take place. At present a very large proportion, probably as much as (0 per cent, of New Zealand butter was used for blending. He thought that the idea of the proposed board, as set out in the Bill, required considerable amendment both in respect to its constitution and functions. Ee did see that a very great advantage would he gained by controlling export from this end. Under existing circumstances, New Zealand producers dealt solely with wholesale firms in Great Britain, whereas he thought they should endeavour to supply retail vendors direct, and also mill their butter-at a London cool butter depot into retail lots of single pounds, and have each pound stamped "N.Z. hirst Grade’’ or ‘ N.Z. Second Grade.” as the case might be. That would lend to n large extent to eliminate fill possibilities of blending. Members of the executive then considered in detail the provisions of the Dairy Produce .Export Control Bill proposed to he introduced into Parliament during the approaching session. Several amendments were suggested, and the following motion was carried;

“That this union supports the Dairy Produce Control Rill as set out, with the proviso that the nine producers on (lie hoard should he elected directly from the dairy producers themselves, but that the method he left to a conference of delegates from the dairy interests.”
