McCOX ACHY'S TOUR. WELLINGTON. May 7. Clark AkConachy, ike New Zealand billiards champion, has returned to Wellington after an absence of three months, during which he has been touring the North Island with great .success. He played at Shannon on Tuesday night, the last of the North Island tour, in which lie made a lino break of 497, including six sequences of nursery camions. During the last fortnight he has been in the Taranaki district, at South Taranaki making a break of 538, following this up in the evening at Ha worn R.S.A. with 400. At Inglewood he played a match with Mr Frank .Julian, who is regarded as a very hard nut to crack if the terms are fairly level, and when he conceded GOO in 10C0 Julian was made favourite. Julian frequently knocked up his century, but despite the start he could not hold the champion, who won by 183.

At New Plymouth he give Tony Bartlett 050 in 1000 and won hv n comfortable margin, and the public were so delighted with his exhibition that five further games were arranged in the district. At Taueatuu he ran up 514 unfinished, but it was at Napier lie met with his first and only delcat of the tour. He conceded Frank Bax GOO in 1000, and Bax, who is a hard player to beat, and a good safety tactician, started off with til and 48. In the closing stage the score was 941—921 in favour of McC’ontiehy, but Bax came along with an excellent run of m. to which the reply was only 14 and Bax ran cut next hand. MoConncliv played Rax two more games on the same conditions. and won one by 28. and the other by 120.

McC'onaehy starts on bis South Island tour shortly after which lie will play in Wellington prior to his departure for South Africa on route for Home to take part in the greatest championship of all. Ho >s going to his borne at Timaru for the present, for l:e has not been with bis family since his return from England. He has not been too well this last week, and will have a short rest before commencing play in the South.

He celebrated bis 28th. birthday a fortnight- ago, and was entertained by a few friends for the evening.
