WESTLAND HOSPITAL BOARD

MONDAY. APRIL 30th. Ihe Board held a. special mooting at 7 p.m. Present: Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), T. W. Dull'. G. It. Blank, H. 11. Chinn, IT. Monk and TV, Jeffries. The Crairman stated the business was to make and strike the annual levy. The Secretary read the estimates, the total expenditure being £22,671 16s 7(1 requiring a levy of £5,892, the local bodies to find 03,0-10, and the Government a. subsidy of £2.852. The levy on the various local bodies to he as follows: Westland County Council £2.319 3s Pd. in nine monthly payments of £257 13s 9d. Hokitika Borough Council. £599 -Is 2d in nine monthly payments of £O6 11s 7d. Kumara Borough Council, £(l3 Is sd, in nine monthly payments of £7 Os 2d. Boss Borough Council. £SB 10s sd, in nine monthly payments of £G 10s Id. The Chairman moved that the levy be struck as above. Seconded by Mr Blank and carried. LOAN OF £7OOO. The Public Trustee notified the granting of a loan ot £7,000 for a term of 23 years at 6 per cent per annum, secured on the annual revenue of the Board.—Received. Mr Jeffries moved that the loan he accepted on the terms offered. Seconded by Mr Duff and carried, the Chairman. Chairman of the Finance Committee. and secretary to sign same. The necessary formal resolutions were carried. Mr Jeffries paid a tribute to the Secretary (.Mr Bruce) on the prompt and satisfactory manner in which he bail completed the loan arrangements.

APPRECIATION. The Chairman moved a vote ol thanks to Mr Burrell for his past services to the Board, appreciating the wink lie had done on the Board. Seconded by Mr Blank and carried. The Chairman said as this was the last- meeting of the Board lie desired to thank members for the assistance given during the term of office. He .wished to refer to the good work of Mi Ritchie, and also specially referred to the great amount of work done by Mr Geo Davidson at Westland Hospital. The Board bad suffered a heavy loss in tig- death of their late matron. The years that had gone bad shown some vast improvements at the hospital, lie thanked them heart.iy for the courtesy extended to him during his term. Mr Jeffries said as one of the latest members of the Board he wished to appreciate the services rendered by Mr Breeze as Chairman, who had been actuated bv the best feelings of humanity. He personally thanked Mr Breeze for the courtesy always extended. The Chairman thanked Mr defines for his kind remarks and also desired to place on record the services of the County representatives who had come from such a long distance. The Secretary stated the lloanl mio a unique position in the Hospital I white Look in that there was not a j penny for travelling expenses charged ; to the Westland Board. Mr Chinn said he would not be a member of the new Board and he wished to compliment the Board on the manner in which they were carrying on t i, e work of the Board. Mr Chinn ulsJ paid a special tribute to the exceptional services of Mr Davidson for the welfare of the Board. , , r ,. Mr Monk trihuted the work ot -'ll Davidson. , The Chairman appreciated the go work of the Secretary, and moved that a heartv vote of appreciation -of Mr Bruce’s' services be recorded. Seconded bv Mr Chinn, who said he had received every possible assistance and information from Mr Bruce. The motion was agreed to. The Board rose at 8.5 p.m.
