(From Our Covrespoitdent.. ' MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS On Monday evening last in Hie school room the annual meeting of householders took place. Very little interest'was taken and only- about a dozen attended. Hon . ( diamond was voted to tho chair. The Secretary (-Mr A. \\ . Peebles) read the report and balance sheet for the past year, which was received, approved and adopted. REPORT. At the annual meeting of householders licit! on the ]2th April of last year the following gentlemen were elected to serve as a Committee for the ensuing year:—Alcssrs A. AY. Upjohn, -C -Muir. E. Dcnia, IT. lfopgood, and C. Upjohn. During the year two vacancies occurred, one by the death of the late Mr A. A\'. Upjohn, the other by removal from the district of Air H. Ilopgood. Alcssrs 11. Osmers and F. Mitchell were appointed to fill tlie vacancies. During the year 18 meetings were held and the attendances were as follows:-- 1. Muir 17. E. Dcnia 16, 11. 0.-mers 12, V. Upjohn 12, E. ALuhell 10, and 11. Ilopgood 4. A.t tlie beginning of the term there was a roll number of 90 scholars ; the present number is 87. Tlie annua! inspection took place in August and tho Inspector's report thereon reflected the highest credit on tk.e teaching staff who are to be heartily congratulated on tho excellence of such report. Wo regret very much losing the scrviet s of two rained teachers who iust recently left to 111! higher positions in schools in the North Island. Their work in the school was of the highest older and the district is indebted to them for the splendid services rendered. These two vacancies are expected to lie filled during the coming month.
The school grounds and gardens have received further attention and ate now in first class order, especially Hae plot in front of the school which is a credit to all concerned. The annual school concert was held in November and was an unqualified success, the net proceeds being £24 16s id, which relied- great credit on the promoters. The Committee's finances arc lit a very sound state : starting with a credit balance of £ls they have finished with a credit oi £sl to hand over to the new Commit fee. In addition to this amount about £2(l subsidy money i- due from Ihe Department and some £l2 wort h ol school books are on baud. The balance sheet showed receipts amounting to £235 S-, Btl, which included £s(l incidental allowance and £>6 -ale school requisites. The expenditure include 1 vein d grounds, £22, school cleaning £29, fuel £22. purelms,. school hooks £53. The lion .). Several minor requirements re im proved loading and yarding facilities were referred to the local officials for adjustment. Air MeVilly left again for Hokitika about 3.30 p.m.
