There has been much rain, resulting in a flood in the river. Thore are two small slips on the railway lino near Waikokopu and several at Wharerata Hill. It is raining heavily still and is showing no signs of abating. DISASTROUS FIRE. SOME NARROW ESCAPES. WATRO.V. April 27. One ef the most disastrous fires in the history of the town occurred early this morning, resulting in the complete destruction of tlie Wairoa Hotel, Everybody’s Theatre, and two shops with'duellings attached. The Duco Garage adjoining was saved by an improvised bucket brigade, there being no water supply or tire fighting appliances. Fortunately, there was a southerly wind, otherwise much greater damage must have -resulted. Tho hotel hoarders, including Chief Judge .Tones ot the Native Land Court. Magistrate Lew and several commercial travellers had narrow escapes, losing practically everything and onlv escaping in their night clothes.'
The origin of the fire is unknown, but it is thought that it started in a small storeroom of the hotel - An upstairs boarder named Mrs Hook, fell down tlie lire escape, sustaining a sprained ankle, while two other hoarders got scorched and their hands badly burned. The insurances are unavailable. STRUCK OFF ROLL. CHRISTCHURCH, April 27. At the Supreme Court, on the application of the Medical Board, Charles Theimer. medical practitioner, and former!'.- of Amherley. was struck off the roll on account of gross impropriety and infamous misconduct professionally in respect to a woman patient. A CLERK WHO PUNTED. AUCKLAND, April 27 “1 used the money to bet on horse races. One day 1 lost as much as £3O. When 1 had a win, 1 would pay the money hack.” So ran a passage in a statement made hv a young clerk employed in the Union Steam Ship Office, when charged with stealing sums totalling £457, the property of the company. The accused is aged 19, and in the Police Court he entered a plea of guilty. Early in 1921, lie commenced to steal sums of money. When freight dues were paid, he failed to account for them in tho proper way, hut endeavoured to balance each month by paying in the money received. The cash handled was insufficient to allow him to continue tho system. He had made restitution ot £ls. He was committed for sentence, hail being allowed in olio surety of £SOO. An order was made that his name was not to he published. David ('amoron Stewart, a young man, was committed for ienteueo on 11 charges of breaking and entering and theft from dwellings in the city and suburbs.
KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR. WELLINGTON, April 27 At an inquest on Herbert Reginald Johnson, wlio was killed as the result of being knocked down by a motor car driven by Thomas F. Railev, the coroner returned a verdict that tho cause of death was a fractured skull, received through being knocked down by a. motor car, negligently driven fix, Bailey, who ignored all notices warning motorists agaui.-t trams and excessive speed. MEDICO STRUCK OFF ROLL. CHRISTCHURCH, April 27. At the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr. Justice Adamas Mr. A. T. Donnelly for the New Zealand Medical Board, under the Medical Practitioners’ Act, moved io have Charles Thiem-or. medical practitioner struck, off the roll on account of gross impropriety and infamous misconduct in a professional sense in that he seduced a patient under his care who by reason of ill-health and mental and moral weakness and reliance on his professional advice was unable to protect herself from him. Mr. Donnelly said that Theimer, who was an elderly man, and a Bohemian, had practised in different parts of Canterbury, and recently at Amherley. some time ago he interfered with a. patient, who apparently was mentally feeble. Theimer had gone into ,Sunnyside Mental Hospital as a voluntary hoarder as he was found to he weak mentally. The authorities kept him there. His Honor made the order asked for. WELLINGTON HOSPITAL BOARD WELLINGTON April 27. Wellington Hospital Board; The tollowing were returned —Rev. van Staveren, Mr. Castle. Mrs Me'Vicar, Rev. J. K. Elliott, Messrs C. M. Mr. Chapman was a Lalxiur candidate. Old members defeated were Mrs Snow and Mr. Glover (Labour). A COLLISION. CHRISTCHURCH, April 28 Three men were admitted to tho hospital last night as the result of a head on collision between a taxi and trallicar oil the Papanui Road. I hen names are Francis McTigue (the driver), J. Garrett and William DermoLt. A fourth passenger escaped without injury. Dermott received head injuries. He was admitted to tho hospital unconscious, hut the condition of all three is reported to be satisfactory to-day. Tho motorman

The motorist was on the proper side of the road, hut the tram was running on a single line on the wrong side.
