April 25. 11l the House of Lords, Lord Carson asked whether a demobilised oliicer. now resident in Dublin, has been refused an assisted passage to Uanacia on the ground that he was a resident ol the Free State. Lord Devonshire replied that the Overseas Settlement Committee under the Empire Settlement Act could not make grants to residents of Ireland. This was provided for by tin Order-in-C'oniicil which could lie varied. lie would endeavour to set lire a variation of tiie order.
