(BY TKI.EO It A OH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, April 23 The Postmaster-General says he recently ventured the opinion that- the Year's work would show £(>90,000 or £'700,000 in revenue above expenditure. less the amount of £400,0011 or £‘150,000 charged for depreciation and interest on capital cost. Since ho made that estimate, it had become necessary to make a payment of £155,000 to the Stamp Department for stamps suld by the Post Office, hilt not used for post and telegraph purpose*. Excluding this payment, the actual amount of revenue over expenditure was £727,774. Taking into consideration tile credit oi £’ljs,o(k) to the Stamp Department, the actual net revenue over the expenditure was £527,77-1. Allowing £450,000 for depreciation. and interest on capital cost, the department should show a net -surplus approximately of £122,77-1. POSTAL REVENUE. WELLINGTON, April 23 The postal revenue for til equarter ended March was £374,721, compared with £lOO,lOl last year, and tho telegraph revenue was £207,319 against £32O,Hi!) a year ago. Telegrams of all kinds and toll calls totalled £3,032,227. ami the revenue therefrom £150,027. The figures a year ago were respectively £3.281,820 and £176,079. The savings banks deposits totalled £0,094,430, and the withdrawals £6,707,307. There was an excess of withdrawals over deposits for tho quarter just ended, therefore, of £104,803, compared with £391,063 p yoar ago.
