HOKITIKA BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

TUESDAY, APRIL 21th. The Committee of tiie above mot at the Town Hall at 7.35 o’clock. Present: Hon. H. E. Michel, M.L.C. ( President!, Mrs Pilkington, Messrs fi'vine. Preston, Pilkington, Evans and Niven. 'I lie minutes oi' the previous meeting were read and continued. On the motion of tlie President seconded by Mr Prseton. a vote of sympathy was passed to Mrs Bennett in connection with tlie recent death of her respected husband. The Secretary's report dealt mainly with tlio routine work in hand. It refened also to the donations of garden seats, and to the painting of tlio scats and cash donations. The cash in bank was reported to he £ls 8s Bd. with L’B nnpresented cheques. Accounts to the amount of Cl2 Is fid were passed for payment, as funds permitted. The President reported on the progress being made with the preparations for the Bazaar to be held June oth and Ot.li. The use of Princess Theatre for the two nights in question had been secured, the picture proprietors kindly giving up Tuesday and Wednesday of the week in question.

In respect to Mrs Wilson’s entertainment, the Poster Parade, ii was reported over fifty young ladies would take part in (lie parade. Valuable prizes were being donated for the host costumes, to be decided by the votes of patrons. The fashion parade would take place on thy stage, followed by marching and oilier evolutions. All people attending the bazaar would receive voting cards to express their choice of the lour host costumes. Extra voting cards would be procurable at ;3d each and would be on sale during the two days of the bazaar, the voting would close at 10 P-m. on the evening of the second night, and the votes would be counted by a special committee. The voting would he on a preferential system according to the order in which the candidates were placed. It is Mrs Wilson’s intention dining next month to call it rehearsal lor the marching mid other evolutions. Meantime all those taking part in the parade were preparing their east nines. Tt is understood some very fine costumes will be displayed. The Chairman furl her reported that the ladies in charge ol the stalls were receiving much encouragement with gifts of goods suitable for sale, and also cash donations, so that it was hoped the function would stabilise the financial fortunes of tlio Society.

H. Haile wrote thanking the Society for increase in salary. The Chairman expressed gratification at the improved appearance of Cass Square, and the creditable appearance of the Cenotaph grounds. .Mr I’ivston lel'erred to tin- necessity of something being, done to improve tin- ocean Pencil in which there "as general concurrence.
