AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.^ ENVOY GETS NO HEARING. LONDON. April 2-1. The Australian Press Association’s special correspondent in Dublin says: It is understood that Monsignor Luzio Papal envoy, lias decided to return earlv to Rome. .His peace making mission appears to have been wrecked by the firmness of the Even State Government. It is certain that Monsignor Luzio saw Mr tie Valera- recently, who consented to make peace on Hie lines of Archbishop Jlnrty’s proposals, hut the Free State Government apparently will not have any part or lot in any negotiated peace, while articles in the “Freeman's Journal” and also public statements by Air Kevin O’Higgins prove clearly that- the Government will not tolerate any intervention by Monsignor Luzio now. Monsignor Luzio was tile central figure in an amusing incident in the Sherborne Hotel tonight. where a dinner was given by the members of the St. George’s Association, the members of which are all Englishmen. Mnnsignor Luzio. with his secretary, was sitting in the hotel lounge below. When the singing of the National Anthem was heard, some of the guests rose, and others remained seated. Monsignor Luzio was embarrassed. Not knowing what to do, he made- for a door, with his secretary, thinking it was an exit. He found himself in the pantry, where ho remained until the- singing was over. He then returned, solemnly to the lounge, and resumed his conversation.
