THE KETCH ELSIE.

RK-LAU-NC KING OPERATION'S. Operations were commenced yesterday preparatory to the launching soav.aids of the ketch l-.-1.-io. which was stranded on tl'e north I each la-d Sunday week. The vessel was lilted on skids, and this morning a move was made her nearer the water. The tug Westland, from Greymouth came down this morning arriving shortly after 8 o’clock and alter one fruitless attempt reached the shore with a rocket, and a large liauser was hauled ashore, and made last to the Elsie- the tug then anchoring a tew hundred yards out awaiting the tide to rise, the sea being very calm and suitable for the attempt.

There was a gang of men under the supervision of Mr A. Ced.Tinan at work, with a large crowd of interested onlookers.

The F.lsie was jacked towards the sea broadside on and later tile tug pulled bringing her nose direct to sea, but the vessel came off the skids as a result. The tide did not roach high enough to go round the vessel, hut the attempt was continued till after 1 o'clock, but without success, when the tug g n ve up. and the tow rope was disconnected, the tug going back to Greymouth.

Operations "ill be continued, when the tide goes out. It will be necessary to lift the vessel on to skids in preparation for the next attempt.
