BRITISH AND INTERCOLONIAL EXHIBITION.
EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING MONDAY, APRIL 16th. The Council sat at 7.40 p.m. Pit sent: Mr W. J. Butler (in the chair) Hon li. L. Michel, Messrs G. Perry R. Wild, A. Aitkcn, IV. Jeffries an D. J. Evans. An apology was receivei for the absence of Mr Geo. Davidson. Messrs Sydney Ford and J. X. Hob iuson of the Electro Power Company met the Council by invitation and dis cussed the matter of electric lightim for the Exhibition buildings am grounds. .It was suggested that durint the period of tho Exhibition the steam stand-by plant should he rim coutinuou ly each evening so as to afford the extra supply of light and power required. The representatives of the Company readily agreed to the request and offered to supply 25 kilowats, equal to about 30 horse power for the actual cost of running the stcaniplant. The cost was given at C 3 10s per night. Tlie power and light would he supplied in hulk ami the Exhibition Council, where additional light was required for any exhibition stand or power for mechanical exhibits, a charge could be made which would be a reduction against the cost to the Exhibition for the supply. On the motion of Mr Peitv, seconded by Mr Aitkcn, this very generous offer was accepted with thanks and appreciation. The Chairman and others also spoke appreciatively of the liberality of the oiler. Mr Ford explained that the Company desired to help the proposition to the folic-1 extent and that there was no desire to make any profit out of the power or light to lie used. Messrs Ford and Robinson also gave valuable information in regard to the installation of the light and distribution throughout the buildings and while the Company could not undertake this work, they offered to advise in regal'd to any contract or arrangement made for the interior and exterior light of the buildings. This kind olfer was aKo accepted with npprccialion. The minutes of the Printing and Publicity Committee which sal on April I!> v,.,v> read and considered clause
by clause. It was resolved to communicate again with C hristchurch in regard to the terms under which the catalogue for the Exhibition was printed and to await the information before taking any action with regard to the acceptance of a tender for the work. In respect to the publication of the ■■Romance of Westland” a volume prepared by Mr A. J. Tlurrop which wa« considered suitable to mark the Diamond Jubilee of the Province, it was decided to ask the Publicity Committee to endeavour to arrange for a local sale or guarantee and to grant I'iee space for the sale id the work at the Exhibit ion. It was decided to adopt the recommendation of tiie Publicity Committee and take a page advertisement in the special number of tile Nov Zealand Eartner shortly to be published for the purpose of advertising the Exhibition. Proposals for an advertising campaign in respect to the Exhibition wove received irom Messrs Gordon anrl Gotch and the Goidberg Agency. It was decided to submit those schemes to tin Director of the late Christchurch Exhibition 'or bis advice as to the best com -c to adopt-. With regard to Ibe printing of the prospectus for the Exhibition it was re- j solved to arrange for the distribution of 5000 copies, and the Chairman and Secretary were directed to attend in the matter, ii was further resolved to appeal for advertisements for insertion in (his prospectus, and Mr Jellrics and oihers offered to assist in that direction. Massey, Prime Minister, aceepting the position ~f Vice Patron and slating he would he glad to he advised with regard lo the general progress made with regard t„ the Exhibition, -Received with thanks. From the Mayor of Nelson, agreeing t„ co-operate in any way possible towards- the success of the Exhibition.— Received. From the County Chairman, Recfton, stuting he would he pleased to act as a Yh-o Pre.-idcut and assist in any way possible and awaiting a _ visit of the general committee to Reel ton. Received with thanks.
From the Secretary Grey mouth Harbour Board, stating that Board members would he pleased to meet representatives of the Council and discuss Exhibition matters and assist personally. f,s suggested in making the Exhibition a success.—Received with thanks. In connection with the meeting at
Grevinoiith to-morrow evening convened hv the Mayor of Greymouth. it was resolved that Messrs Butler, Jeffries and Evans and Hun Michel attend and meet the citizens ol Gieyniontli to discuss the proposition. It was further resolved to visit the northern districts including Recfton. Westport. Murchison, Nelson, Pieton, and Blenheim as early as convenient, and the Chairman confer with the member.- of the Council as to a suitable time Lo make the ionr with the object of interesting the citizens of the various towns and if possible arrange distinctive courts for (be localities. From the Marine Department, supplying particulars of the bright sunshine at Hokitika for the last three V( >ars. Received. and it was resolved to publish the information in the Exhibition prospectus.

Auckland, cm r, Hiring as to rates for floor spare and asking to be supplied with the plan of the proposed Exhibition.—Received, prospectus to be forwarded as soon as possible. From th.c Secretary Chandler of Commerce, Dunedin, stating that the circular in respect to the M esiland Exhibition had been read with interest and awaiting further information when the members of tho Chamber would be glad to co-operate. —Received. Front the Manager of Bank of Now Zealand thanking the Council for appointing the Bank. Bankers to tho Exhibition and enquiring the amount of accommodation required, also placing the rear portion of tho Bank .sections at disposal for the Exhibition buildings Received with thanks.

From James O'Brien, M.P., agreeing to co-operate in securing indemnifying legislation for the local bodies assisting in regard to tile Exhibition and offering to co-operate at all times to make the Exhibition a success.—Received with thanks. The Chairman’s report from Wellington was received and approved with thanks. Letters were received from a ninnber of Licensed Houses supplying tariff rales for accommodation for insertion in the leaflet which it is proposed shortly to distribute. In respect to the matter of accommodation, the Council again reviewed the subject and it was resolved to convene a further meeting of the Licensed Victuallers for 3.30 o’clock on Thursday afternoon to meet the members of the Council and further discuss the matter with the object of impressing upon the Licensed Victuallers the necessity of every eifoi fc being made t'> extend their accommodation, not only :u connection with ti c Exhibition, hut i
