Dehorning. In- declared, was a very simple operation, which could he periormed by a saw similar to tin,l used by biurher-. The mo-t lie.uume ntotliod was to dehorn calves a- soon as the bone Logan to show beneath the skin. The practice was to make a sharp incision, and remove the “button.” Another method was to place caustic upon the bone button, with a ring of soap round the horn to prevent the caustic from spreading. The method of dehorning was strongly recommended to cattle growers and dairymen, ami should Is- at once pul into operation. (!i course, there was always controversy over the he-t procedure to adopt with regard to purebred animals intended for show purpose*, as dehorning tool; away the characteristic expression. This was overdone on many slat ions by having brass or wooden knobs attached to the tips of the horns.
