Startling information i- contained m a pamphlet on the venereal diseases problem issued by the Australian Association for Fighting Venereal Dise'se. According to the pamphlet one-third ut ifie people who do die in the Melbourne Hospital are infected. Ihe terrible consequences of the disease are referred to. and the methods lor prevention are outlined. The importance of immediate treatment is emphasised. At the general meeting if the Association rel'ereuec was made to remarks by the chairman of the Eitzroy (Melbourne' Bench regarding the need tor i'n.-i it ut ions, other than gaols, where u mien suffering from the disease could be treated. It seemed a reflection on humanity. one speaker said, that they allowed a state of affairs under which girls could he treated only in gaol. It was agreed: ‘That the association pretests against the closing of the venereal disease detention house for women without provision being made for treatment under detention elsewhere other tba" in gaol.
