EXECUTIVE COUNCIL -MEETING. 7) WEDNESDAY. MARCH 28th. The Council met at 7.13 o'clock. Present; Messrs \Y. J. Butler (in the s Chair), G. A. Pony, R. Wild, AY. Jeffries, i). J. Evans. Apologies for , absence were received from Alessrs G. 5 Davidson and A. Aitkcn. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and the outward corI ro.spondence approved. I IN AVAR D CORRESPONDENCE. I'roni A. A. -'.mlrewes regretting he could not see his way to accept the position as Honorary Treasurer, hut offering to assist in any other way possible.—Received. Air .Evans was appointed Treasurer. From .Messrs Park and Murdoch, accepting the position as Solicitors for the Exhibition Committee, with thunks. Received. From Town Clerk intimating that Hie members of the Council would 1 e pleased to confer with the Exhibition Council in respect to the use of Municipal Reserve and Town Ball. incluJ ing the top floor, in connection with the Exhibition.—Received. Ll was re solved to hold a, Conference at an early dale in regard to the details, and al-o lo apply for a portion of the Carnegie Public Library as an Art Gallery where it is hoped to display several valuable pictures. From Renton and Company agreeing to the use of the Implement .Store in Tailored Street as temporary quarters for the Fire Brigade appliances, during the period of the Exhibition.Received with thanks. If wav reported Mr Braddon, Superintendent of the Fire Brigade was agreeable to meet tin’ Executive Council in any way possible with regard to the use el the Eire Brigade Station and Meeting Rcom upstairs in the Town Hail.—Received with thanks. From the Defence Office, Gieymouth agreeing to the use of the Drill Hall lor Exhibition purposes on terms to be arranged with Captain Stedman on his next visit to J-lokitika. Received. From Secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce. AAellington. noting with pleasure the completion of the preliminary arrangements for the Exhibition and accepting Ibc invitation to visit Hokitika at an early dale to discuss spieral matters in relation to Government assistance.■■■■ Received. with thanks. purchase of a quantity rf decorations had been arranged for. ami that the Canterbury Kennel Club contemplated holding a Show during the peril'll of Ibe Exhibition also supplying information with regard to poster printing. Received with thanks; It was resolved to enquire the probable cost of posters mid oilier matter for the informal ion of the Publicity Committee.

From the Director of State Forests. AA'elliiigton. promising to help in every way to assist in the success ol the Ex- i liihilion movement.- Received. GENERAL. Mr Jeffries reported Dial the guarantee list now totalled £2.133 with several additional amounts to he set down. There had been no refusals Mid the arrangements in regard to Hie guarantee were very satisfactory. Report received with thanks. ll was resolved to invite His Excellency. Lhe Governor-General to become Patron of the Exhibition, and to ask the Prime Minister to accept the position of ci'e-Pat roil. The Chairman of the Executive Council, ATr Butler, was appointed President. and it was resolved to appoint the Al.'iy n rs and County Chairmen of the AA’est Coast local bodies, vice-Pre-sidents. 'll was resolved to convene an eni'lv meeting of the Publicity Committee and go into various matters, and to take stops lo advise Oversea Dominions with regard to tbe approaching Exhibition. It was resolved to approach the Covet union t with regard to the necessary Legislation for a “Local Bodies Indemnity Bill” with regard to contribute ns to the Exhibition movement, and to ask the Member for AYostlnml to support the legislation. The Chairman intimated lie would be in Christchurch and AA'elliiigton next week, and several matters wore referred t» Air Butler in relation t" the Exhibition for attention in both cities. The Chairman reported in regard to accommodation, and it was resolved to await the report of the suh-Commitfee before taking further action in the matter. It was also reported that a meeting of the Transport and Toms Committee had been held, and particulars were now being compiled in regard to tours and tariff rates to various points of interest in the AYesdam! and Grey districts. The meeting concluded at D. 13 p.m.
