Jewel Box Trick.
LONDON, Jan. 31. 15y moans of a clover trick the jewellory' linn of Messrs Milwaril and Company, of Kingk-rond, Sotithsea, were robbed of UKii l yesterday.
A supposed traveller offered to the manager for purchase ii collection ol valuable jewellery. After examination, the manager offered £4OO lor it. Ihe traveller, however, saying that the offer was not good enough, closed the box containing the jewels and walked out of the door with it.
Almost immediately he returned, put the box on the counter, and said that he had changed his mind and would accept the £IOO offered. The £IOO was paid to him in notes and lie lefl.
Some little time later the manager found that the box was locked, and became suspicions. Me broke it open and found that: in place of the valuable jewellery the box contained only a few worthless articles.
The ti a veil or after carrying the hux to the shop door apparently had quickly exchanged it for a dummy box exactly similar, held by tt confederate ovttside.
A description of the two men ha been circulated.
