anneal meeting. TUESDAY, MARCH 27th The annual meeting of the above was held at the Town Hall last night. Present: Hon. H. L. Michel (President) in the chair; Mesdames Bennett, Butler, Wilson, Michel. Morris. Coulson, I’ilkington, Benjamin, Irvine, MeM’hirter. Prqiihart, and Miss Evans; Messrs Preston, McGregor, Bruce, Evans and Niven (lion, see.) The minutes of the previous meeting were conlii nied, The Secretary’s report (published yesterday) was leceived and adopted, then' being expressions of approval at the large amount of work done. The Chairman referred to the good work of the Caretaker (Mr Haile) and thought an increase of salary should be made to ensure full time from the Caretaker. This view was concurred in and it was resolved to suggest an increase of £2 per month, halt to bo paid by the Borough Council. In view of the present shortage of funds, the Chairman said it would be necessary to economise, and after this week to dispense with casual lanor. The balance sheet showed that £455 had been handled during the year, and the statement of assets and liabilities a debit cf £lB 19s sd. Tho poppy fund yielded £O3 2s Gd, which was subsidised £ for £ by the Society, and the total amount virtually spent on soldiers’ labor, the credit balance being £2 16s 3d. The statements were adopted. Mr Bruce voiced the appreciation of the public for the good work done by the Society, and said it would be a compliment to see all the officers mid committee re-elected. I h.’s was done. The President returned thank' and said since the inception of the Society less than two years ago £.585 had been raised and expended. The amount was a tribute to the liberality of the people, and it was pleasing _to know the work of the Society was so much appreciated. It was reported Mrs Stavoley would not be able to organise an entertainment as at first suggested, and All’s Yv ilson suggested a poster parade for young ladies, offering a prize for the be-t costume.
