I he “Daily Mail’s” Naples correspondent reports that excavations of the street of Abundance, Pompeii, revealed most interesting details. Tt established that a house was equipped with a verandah roof, the original tiles being lound. 'I he villa's interior walls w onadorned with beautifully executed frescoes, depicting mythological subjects, and incidents in the wars of Troy. Li the gardens were found fountains which were made in play again, the water being allowed to run through ancient pipe- which were intact. Numbers of small statuette and household articles were unearthed. A pompeii bar was found practically intact, urns, glasses, and a. stout iron bench being ready for use. also a coublron for keeping drinks hot. The identity of a number of shops the windows of which had been shuttered had been established. These include goldsmiths, manufacturers of felts and 1' idler’s shop. The armamentarium nr wactli hou?te of the municipal militia has two paintings of trophies, a mural one bearing an anchor; also a military picture depicting a Biittanic war chariot, probably painted at the time of •Tillius Caesar. A suhteranean apartment was found in the houses with ceilings in has relief, some containing corpses. To the Fuller's establishment two skeletons lay near an open .Irene J box containing live hundred coins, suggesting a last minute attempt to retrieve the treasure, when the occupants were overcome by the eruption. The gardens were being planted with vines, flowers, shrubs.
