Tuesday. march 20th. The Board met nt 8 p.m. Present— Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), G. Davidson, G. H. Blank. T. TV. Duff, H. Monk, and TV. Burrell. Valentine, enclosing Minister's eunsent to Borrow loan of L*ooo contingent on no local authority protesting against same. — Receii ed. |.'rom Hr. Freiigloy, supplying plans for TVailio cottage. Received: The Chairman stated the timber had been ordered. It was resolved to forward the plans to the T\ ailro Committee toi approval. From Same, forwarding plans for concrete tank at Westland Hospital, and estimating the cost of £(soo.—Received, ft was resolved to hold over the pmposed work for six months. From Hospital Department. The Chairman proposed that the neeessarv steps to complete the loan he put in hand. Seconded by Mr Blank and carried. The Secretary stated that the cost of works in hand were, new wing and f| Harters £11.110: heating and steam £1110; isolation ward £800; estimated “„t of home £2.200. Total £IO.OOO. The Chairman said that Mr David-s'-n ".as going to Wellington and lie moved that lie Be authorised to act on behalf of the Board and to interview the Minister of Health and Dr. Valentine in connection with the proposed loan. From .Maltun Little rendering resignation as malron ol Westland Hospital; regretting the necessity of so doing and thanking members ol the Board f.,r rue kindness extended during her connect ion with the institution.---Re-ceived; Mr Breeze moved that the resignation be accepted with extiemc regret. Mr Breeze said he deeply deplored the necessity of the resignation being scut in. Mis- Little had given very faithful arid valuable service to the Board, ami il was with extreme regret that he moved the accept a nee ol her resign.;! ion.
Mr Davidson .seconded the motion with regret. Matron Little had proved an ideal matinn. .She had studied the institution D'orn even point ol view. She wits a great manager, and had always done lmr best to advance tin* best interests of Board and patients. She ,• , a gentlewoman in every respect. He was sure every member tegvetted the necessity that had caused Tli-s Little's resignation. The motion was agreed to. From Kumnra Medical Committee, stating the Committee were unable to provide no liter, ase in their contribution, to enable an increase of salary of Dr Daniels. Received. The Chairman said tint as a result of this derision the Board could not favourably consider the application of the do tor for an increase of salary. Front Westland County Council, approving of proposal to borrow CiCifiO.- - Received. From Hokitika Borough Council approving of proposal for loan.—Received. Front Ross Borough Couiieil. stating they do not approve of electing a new old peoples Home at Hokitika, while the Home- at Knmara and Tottira hospitals were in their present suitable comfit ions. Received. Froin Kumnra Borough Council stating the Council strongly objected to tlu> proposed loan and suggested that the Grey and TYestland Boards eonfer with a view to joint action for upkeep of old peoples Home. - Received. From .1. Schilling. AVnilto. forwarding £3 10s. and asking for a proper receipt to be sent. - Received. From Master Old Peoples Home, Kumara. reporting oil milk and vegetable production for period.- Received. Mr Davidson said it was very creditable the manner in which the Master had obtained such excellent results. From Dr. Fast. Otira notifying the requirements of the Otira Hospital.— .Received. From Otira Committee. endorsing the list of tequironunts and reporting on a number of matters.—Received. The action of the Chairman in refusing leave to tin- ert’mr matron at Otira and temporary appointment of successor was approved. It was resolved that Nurse Fane ho appointed subject to approval of tlm Hospital Department. Tt was resolved that application he made to the Railway Department to subsidise Otira, Hospital when the Pnblie. Works Department relinquishes control of the tunnel works.
Various letters in connection with maintenance accounts were received and dealt with. REPORTS. Front House Committee reporting conditions at the institution were satisfactory; that their sow had gamed first prize at the Show; that the Rirnit Gold Dredging Coy. had suggested the placing of collection boxes for tlie hospital on the dredge.—Received and a vote of thanks passed for the suggestion. which was being put mto force. From Finance Committee reromI mending payment of accounts £->23 3s. Received and adopted. Mr Davidson reported that in another fortnight the new ward would he completed and the 1 nurses would he able to occupy it, and then the old structure would be re- ! moved and the foundations of the newadministrative quarters could be put in. The Board rose at 10 p.m. !
