A. Ward, W. IT. G. Allely, and E. Charbau, of Tauranga; J. If. Thomas, of Alorriusville; l*. Quinlan, of Alatamata, and Thomas Stanley, ol Te Aroha. 11 UN .MASSEY’S SPEECH. TAI’KANGA, March 19. lion .Massey entered the Hay ol Plenty portion of the Tauranga electorate to-day, and he addressed a large audience at Katikati. Air Massey was accorded a cordial welcome, and lie spoke for over an hour in refutation of statements made by Sir Joseph Mat'd, and in defence ol the Government. At the conclusion of Air .Massey’s address a vote of thanks and confidence was carried unanimously. Air Massey then left, amidst enthusiasm. for Tauranga, and was well received by settlers along the route. Air Massey arrived at Tauranga at ~>. p.m., and when nearing the centre ol the town he was met: !>v many local ■supporters, and transferred to a decor- , nled buggy, drawn by several eutliusi-a-tie friends, who pulled (lie vehicle about the third of a mile to Mr .Mas I sev’s hotel. The Premier was cheered He briefly addressed the crowd, thanking them for llie reception. In the evening, Air .Massey addressed the electors in the Town Hall, which was filled to overflowing long before starting time at eight o’clock, and as the Premier entered the hall he "as receiv'd with cheers. The .Mayor, Air 11. Dive, presided. Air .Massey paid a I'ibute to the hit" .■sir W. I lorries, whose memory would be honoured and revered in ibis country. lie believed ibis bye-election "a ihe most important yet held in tlm history of New Zealand. Any ehniipo in the representation of Tauranga electorate would reduce the Government majority to one, and ibis Government could mu carry on with a majority ol one. lU‘ was there to support the candidature of At.r AlacAlillan.
