FIVE HOUSES WRECKED.
LONDON', Jan. 3. Five houses m Anchor-road. Longton, in the Potteries district of Staffordshire, were wrecked and several jeoplu were injured by an explosion due to a leakage iroui the gas main >osterdny afternoon. the explesh u vr- li lln.ed I;v a seri -of arc- in tin.* nom.-os. A little girl, (■'ladys Dennis, of •" *. Anchor-road, i ■ ngton. wiio was in a front room at t o time, was taken to the Cottage Hospital suffering from severe shock. The house- arc fairly large. Walls, doors, and windows were blown out. The wreckage was strewn along the street. For nearly 1*) minutes there was a shower of broken turmture, pieces of which fell more than I>yards from the houses. Several passers-hv were lound to he suffering from shock, (lladys Dennis was the only occupant ot any <>t the houses to lie affected. Neighbour's helped the live families whose house- have <u wrecked to fin;! temporary accommodat'.on.
