In the address at the Count,\ Chambers on Tuesday night. Me .lenkin. President of the Canterbury Industrial Association, made a most generous offer to the manufacturers of flic Coast to enter the Canterbury fold of organisation with regard to the promotion ol secondary industries in the district. It was another example of that new spirit which the drawing together ol Canterbury and Westland by rail connection is fostering. Needless to say the Coast manufact urci s would be wise to take advantage of the oiler and associate fhemsolves as closely as possible with file influential organisation in Christchurch. Tt would be a step in the right direction leading up In many personal advantages for manufacturers. and in the end groat benefit for the community at large here, industrially. The offer includes also the compliment of embracing the name of Westland in the title of the Association, an act which would do a great deal towards placing the district on the map of Dominion industrialism. There should be a general response of manufacturers up and down the Coast to join forces with Canterbury, and cooperate in the important policy the Association is shaping for the general advancement of the secondary industries which yield such wealth towards rhe prosperity of the Dominion.

It was a very great, pity chat the weather for Show Day proved so unfavourable immediately anterior to the opening of the gathering. As a consequence many exhibits did not put in appearance while the general conditions under foot as the day proceeded, were decidedly uncomfortable. The interest in the Show measured by tlie attendance under the unfavourable conditions however, was most gratifying, and the management has every reason to lie encouraged by the public patronage. The exhibits, also, were of interest, itnd diseloH'Ci ff forward advance. The

stock were more numerous and tho general condition was very satisfactory. The ground competitions were kept moving and the public interest well sustained. In the home produce there was a brave display, and the thronged apartment throughout the afternoon, indicated the public interest in that special branch. The committee had the show wrfll organised, and matters, despite the depressing conditions of the weather, seemed to run particularly j well. The Westland A. and P. Association has mnde a- praiseworthy effort to carry on for many years now, and there is not any occasion for the organisation to relax its efforts as regards these annual gatherings. They now have good competition, tending to better every year, and the public interest is certainly undiminished. :
