DUNEDIN. March 11. The evidence of six witnesses was taken at the enquiry yesterday into the death of Kenneth White, a watersider. who was killed by a sling of cargo oil the Knikourn on March 2nd. The evidence showed the ball of tin* Harbour Hoard crane caused an unexpected swing of the sliog io the hold, after it had been loaded ready lor hoisting. The deceased was struck on the head and died in the hospital. The crane was working cargo oil the oil side of the vessel while the ship’s winches v, ere working Llie near side in the same bold, and 111,* Government inspector of ships said be would have stopped work bad l.e known this was going on. Ike Gornncr (Mr 1.. \\ . Bundle) said that where two gangs «ere working, every care should la* taken to ensure the safety of tin* men. and il seemed that where the crane was working the offside, and the ship's gear the .inside, theie was apt to be a danger. He found that deceased died from shock, following injuries received by being crushed by a sling while winking on Urn port side of the K.uikuura on March 2nd.
