LATE LOCALS.

In our report of the motor car accident yesterday a paragraph referring t-» Mr (!. A. Perry should have read : “Mr (}, A. Perry of Hokitika stated the ear was NOT travelling fast at the time” etc.

At the advanced ago of 9(5 years, one of the earliest and hardiest West Coast pioneers, Mr John Flanagan, yesterday crossed the Great Divide. A native of County Clare, Ireland, he arrived in the early sixties on the Coast, and followed the gold rushes, doing well in his later ventures, when for a long period, he resided at Welshman's, in the Marsden neighbourhood. He was a single man. Having passed the allotted span by over a decade, lie then went "to reside in Greymouth, where he was a familiar figure, his unfailing genialily and good nature attracting the young folk, with whom he was favourite. He took ill only on Sunday, and passed away at 5.30 p.m.,' yesterday, at the residence of Airs Bowman, where he had resided for main- years.
