AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. BRITISH WARSHIPS LEAVE SMYRNA. LONDON, Feb 20. Authoritative sources state the British warships, "with the exception of one light cruiser, have been withdrawn from Smyrna. It- is stated this is a friendly act towards Turkey, w.th a hope of assisting Ismet Pasha to overcome the Angora extremists. LONDON, Feb 27.
Mr McNeill, in the House of Commons. detailed the eireuncstanceH attending the evacuation of refugees from Smyrna and Thrace. These services were rendered in the cause of hunianitv, and cost Britain £45,000. Colonel J. C. Wedgwood moved a nominal redui-toin on the Smyrna vote to show Labour’s disapproval of Lord CuLJ zoo’s Near East policy, which has involved this expenditure.
