A DISTINCT SUCCESS

The Vest Coast Agricultural Association Show in Victoria l’ark opened yesterday and proved an undoubted success. There was a very attractive and varied display of live stock, land products, horticultural products, fruit, farm implements, dairying machinery, vehicles and other things too numerous to mention. Tents lined the pathways from tli eVictoria Park gates to tlie grandstand, and theicin the manifold wares and exhibits were displayed and offered for sale, as the ease might be.

Sawing Handicap. 2 men. 2 cuts, 15 inch log—T. Fox and (!. Jack (3secs), 1: Jamieson and McKenzie (osecs) 2; Halm Bros. (ser). Time 2-1 2-3 secs. The winner- finished nearly three seconds to the good while Halm Bros wore close up third. McKenzie, one con-te.-laiit is a one-handed -awver.

Upright Chop 15-inch log J. Hahn (8.-ecs| I, Williams (20scos) 2. 0. Koeti (P2-ecs) 3. Also competed: J. C. Wilson (Pisces!, and (i. Katau (8 secs'.

Time 1.51 3-3, making the winner’s time 1.39 3-5. The cutting was on tinslow side, imd Katau did not appear to be in his best form. Williams (o! Velieka South Westland) chopped fairly well for one making his fir-t appearance in a handicap in this locality. After this event. 'McKenzie, the one armed axeman, gave an exhibition of upright chopping, putting in a smart cut on a small log for one handicapped as he is. The block was about half a 15-inch one. and he cut it through m 42sees.

Ladies’ Riding Competition.--Mrs C. K. Neville (Hokitika), and Misses .T. Baird (Kokat-ahi). and K. Alison (Ureyinouth) were recalled for a further test to-day. Miss L. McCollum was thrown from her horse and took no part in the competition.
