Hokitika Beautifying Society.

TUESDAY. FEB. 27tli

! The Committed met at the Town Hull at 7.-10 ii.m. Present : Hon H. L. I .Michel (Chairman). Mesdames Bennett and Pilkingtnn. Messrs Kvans, Carter. Pru-toM, Irvine. Pilkington. and Niven. Apology was made for the absence of .Mr- Butler. The minutes of the previous meeting in December were read.

The Hon Secretary (Mr Niven) reported on works done for the past two months, including painting of southern fence for £ll for labor; attention to

drains, seats, tracks, and sward, and general cleaning up works; gravelling had been commenced as far as supplies would permit. Tarring surface would he put- in hand when tile wetitln r was suitable. It was proposed to attend to the gravelling and cleaning up. The report was approved after a brief discussion as to finance. The Chairman reported the picture benefit would take place next I. tiesday night- at the Theatre.—Approved, and tickets circulated for sale. The Secretary reported the receipts since last meeting were £7 10s for the sale of refreshments, and the wages paid for the same period including cure taker, £sl Is 3d. The credit balance at date was £26 2s fid against which accounts to the amount of £25 17s lOd were passed for payment. —Approved. The Chairman said it would be necessary to raise additional funds, and he suggested a bazaar extending over two nights to fat held about dune. This wtis agreed to, and it was resolved fcull it meeting of management to carry the large function through. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr 11. A. Thompson for gift of two ornamental seats to be placed on the eastern -side adjacent to the war memorial. Various matters in regard to works in and about Cass Square were discussed, and it was decided to push on with all cleaning np work for Easter, hut in view of the shortage of funds to dispense with the extra labor employed. The meeting concluded at 8.30 p.m.
