The al tendance of buyers was pood, practically equal to tin .liiioiary sale. but as was ittilii iptitcd alter the results of Waiipc;uiiii and Napier sales became known, prices were with a few exceptions lower than realised at Wellington January ■ale. The condition of wools generally was not so good a-S that of the earlier sales, and the selection was not ctptal to previous oll’erings. Pieces of oddments wire keenly competed for. and with few exceptions sold particularly well. I.ainli,s’ wool, however, was
rather irregular, hut skirted lots were ciigorlv sought after. Bidding in the main was slow and erratic-, hut competition for all hfiglit well-grown light conditioned wools was keen and animated. Shabby and seedy lots were neglected and found difficult of sale. To some exti ltd the sales were hampered hv owners’ reserves. Only about

The dip]) in liner qualities owin.i to i!ic ah^onrv of American coinix tiuoi experienced earlier in the sales, is estimated at. Id to 2d per lb. On the whole, medium finality depreciated Id to I’d per lh. There was evidence of a firmer enquiry for coarse well-grown wools in good condition. Lambs, unless first quality were distinctly lower to the extent of Id per lb. Competition lor bellies, pieces, locks and cruichings was good. \ cry little merino was offered. The demand at the opening of the sale was irregular, but tb,i;i closing icatalogti.es evidenced a keener eompititon and somewhat dearer. The sale elosetl distinctly firm in tone. WE I. Accommodation i< short and it is now stated the old building was constructed on a wiong plan and the wards are mosth turned from the sun instead of towards it. As the cod is too great to abandon it. the only course is remodelling the old part io far as possible and erecting additions on a more modern plan.
STRONG R.S.X. PROTESTS. WELLINGTON, February 25. The alleged Government neglect to find employment for all partially disabld soldiers, was the subject of severe condemnation at a meeting, <>f the Dominion Excutive of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. The report stated the disabled soldiers were becoming more and more prominent in the ranks of unemployed. Complaint was made n.s to the assessment of the percentage of physical disabilty for war pension, and it was held that in the ease of the mote seriously disabled men, it is practically useless so far as employment in the open market is concerned. Therefore the Government should he prepared to create employment for such men at the minimum wage of the public service. Mr Cox (Auckland) stated that in consequence of the treatment received I by the unemployed disabled men in j Auckland district, a large proportion of | disabled men had migrated, j Mr L. S. Graham (Otago) made a I strong appeal on behalf of these men. 1 He said they were sick and tired of ! the hopeless position of these men. Tt 1 was a disgrace to the country to see I their vain endeavours to live on the meagre pensions they received. Tt was decided to strongly recommend the Government to make special , efforts to employ disabled men in all I possible occupations in the Govcrni ment service, and where necessary, the • Government should undertake the responsibility of training disabled men for such occupations. Thi' report on the Toppv Day sales lasi year stated that of the net total of 1:1710 received, the French children received £BOOS. The total amount collected was C 13.166.
