The energy displayed by district branches had. been most encouraging, and the branches had proved a source of strength to the society. The council regretted that it.- efforts to secure the passing of an Engineers Beg: tration Bill had not been successful. The Prime Alinister gave a sympathetic and favourable reply, and undertook to have a Government Bill drafted as earlv as possible, hut so tar n>> Bill had appeared. The Council regretted the resignation of Professor Scott, of Canterbury College, and recommended that the society elect him an honorary member.
At the annual conference of the Society of Civil Engineers, the following officers were appointed : - -President, Air F. AV. Furkett (Wellington); treasurer. Air J. Alarehbanks: members of council filling vacancies by retirement. P,. AV. Holmes (Wellington!, S. and R. Afair (Hiinterville). and L. Birks (AVellington). The next conference was fixed for Dunedin next February. In the evening Air W. E. Bush. Auckland City Engineer, tend a paper on “The Water Supply of Cities."
