The death look place on Saturday last of a former well-known Hokitika, resident, -Mi- W. W. Henderson, at the age of 79 years. He passed away at the residence of bis son-in-law. Mr I . liiondi, Coronation Street. Wellington. Deceased was formerly a Rank Manager at Hokitika, later Secretary of the Hokitika Renevolent. Society for many years. Several members of bis familv remained on the Coast after deceased loft about IS years ago. one being Mr Archie Henderson, of Hokitika.
The quarterly meeting of the Hokitika Fire Rrigade was held last evening. Superintendent Rraddon and if members being present. The previous minutes were confirmed and a quantify of formal '■correspondence was dealt, with, mainly in connection with the coming conference and demonstration at Dunedin. It was stated that hireman D. Davidson would attend the Conference to receive his gold slai for twenty-five year-' service. Donations were acknowledged of £2 is Od from Misses McLeod and £2 2s from Mr ,1. J. Mclntosh, while an anonymous donor also torwardod a cheque. Votes of thanks were passed to the donors. The Brigade then proceeded to discuss the remits to be brought before the Conference and the delegate was advised as to the attitude to he taken on various subjects, while others were left to his discretion. It was resolved to extend an invitation to the Association to hold the Conference next year at Hokitika. Tte various foremen reported the gear generally to be in good order. The roll was then called and the meeting terminated at 10 o’clock.
There was a lively scene in one ni the wards of the Wellington hospital at ail carlv hour on Ihursday morning, when a hefty male patient in a state of delirium sprang up from his bed, knocked one of the house surgeons aside, and rushed down the ward in his hod clothes, scaring the wits out of tile nurses, and .smashing (anything which came in his way.
