CHAUTAUQUA. THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING iC hautauqila. season opened to-day. when tin; Australian mixed quartette made their dohut, and the concert was very much enjoyed. To-night the conceit party, alter the opening, will render a second concert, to he followed hy a lecture, entitled “A Night in the Orient.” Mr J. ('. Navphe of Athens, is the lecturer, and his work is spoken of very highly. He is described as a royal entertainer. He appears in Oriental costumes of great beauty, and delivers a marvellously clever and interesting lecture on the customs ,manners, and life of the peoples of the East. Chautauqua should have a most auspicuous opening tudav.
The season will be continued tomorrow at 2.10 o’clock with an illustrated travelogue, ‘‘Sidelights and Snapshots of the North Pacific.” Mr Drew Pearson, the lecturer, is a man who as wandered off the beaten path of travel to seek information of a novel variety that be might tell and explain in word and picture the life and habits of the people of the North Pacific.
At the evening session, commencing at 8 o’clock, the comedy drama by the Western (American) Players will he produced. The piece, “The Mollusc,” written hy \V. 11. Davis of London, has proved to he tremendously popular as it has been presented to English speaking people on three continents. Coming to Chautauqua on the second night, presented hy the Western Players of New York. “The .Mollusc” is certain to he popular here also. It is a most diverting play and u ill he enioved from every point of view.
flic prices id' single admissions to the daily sessions are :—A ft eruons 2 s pills tax ; evenings 3 S , plus tax, children half price. The .Junior Chautauqua meets daily at 4.15. when the Story Lady will entertain the young folk. The local season concludes on Saturday night.
