CHAUTAUQUA VISIT.

Air Stout, representing the Chautauqua organisation, in commenting on the artists to visit Hokitika next week went on to say that of unusual interest to patrons of Chautauqua will be the programme of Julius Caesar Xayphe on the opening night. Among the upper classes in the land of Mr Xnyplte’s nativity, the selection of the bride and groom for their children is done entirely by the parents and it, quite frequently happens that tits first time the couple see each other is after their betrothal. Mr Nayplie, with the aid of six young ladies of Hokitika, will enact as part of his programme. the quaint, interesting and amusing scene that takes place at one of these betrothal ceremonies. Moreover he will explain in detail many of the customs of Ids people and of his neighbors, tbe Mohammedans in their social and religions life. The stage will be decorated "i(h Oriental tapestries valued at over two thousand pounds which may be inspected as well as the costumes at the conclusion of the lecture. As a speaker ATr Nayplie is eloquent and entertaining. He also has a fund of humor and amuses his audience with stories of his struggle with Hie English language. The Australian mixed quartette "ill give the first concert Wednesday afternoon and a prelude to Air Nnyphe’s program in the evening. This organisation of singers are offering a programme that will delight. Included in their repertoire are such numbers as ’’l he Afikado’’, “Il Trovatore.” ‘'The Gondoliers.” and “Afaritana” all of which were made especially popular in Hokitika hy the companies of the lato Tom Holland.
