STRUCK BY TRAIN.
ELDERLY LADY KILLED. GREYAIOUTH. Fob 5
Struck by the engine of the 10.25 p.m. train from Ngabere, .Mrs Jane White, aged 57, succumbed to injuries received on the Blackball railway line on Saturday night. ( Tho night was very dark, with drilling rain. The engine was travelling slowly up an incline about half a mile from the Blackball Station. Tin* deceased, was lying across tho rails when the engine struck her. The driver. Stewart Orr, saw her. and pulled ii]) the train in an engine’s length, luii too late to avoid striking the deceased. When the driver descended from the cab of the engine*. Airs White was standing on the side of the line. She was perfectly conscious, but was cut and bruised about the right side ol her lace. “] must have fainted and fallen across the line," she told the guard. Thomas bainhcrton, when plaein the van. Dr W. Little attended the deceased who. however, died shortb alter. Yesterday afternoon an inquest was held, by the Acting Coroner. Mr F. M. Kilgour, and a jury of four. Detective J. ii. Young watched proceedings on behalf of the police and Mr K* Cameron. District Trallic Manager, acted on behalf of the Railway Department. Evidence was given as to tlie accident and what occurred alter.
The deceased, it was -lated, hud been attended for Lite past two years by a doctor and was .suffering Loin ne.vous trouble. Site had evideu.L wandered out on the railway amt taken a weakness.

Mrs I’eU-r Williamson .of Blackball, is a. daughter of deceased. The relatives will have general sympathy in their sudden bereavement .
