'The Council met at 8.5 p.m. Present:—Messrs 0. A. Perry (Mayor), F. McGregor, A. Parkhill. R. F. Perham. G. H. Blank, J. King, G Wood, IT. M. Coul,son and A. <!. Pilkington. An apology was made for the absence of Air J. Lloyd. The minutes were confirmed and oilt- - ward correspondence approved. IN WA R D COPR ESPONDENCE. From Afrs Fitzsimmons applying for license for Westland Opera House.Received, From Princess Theatre Coy. applying for license for Princess Theatre.— Received. From .Miss Mclntosh applying for license for Supreme Hall. -Received. It was resolved to refer the three applications to the inspector and Siipt. 111-addon to report. From Secretary High School Board notifying lease of sections.—Received. From Department of Health enclosing application for septic tank to bo li,-laded by Air S. W. . l ord; and Ciuiesing favourable report by Inspector Varney.— Received. The Mayor sc ill previously the Inspector and Department had objected to the granting of permission. Air AleGrigor said the Health Department was very in and out in iis decisions, objecting in some instances and taking the opposite on other occasions. Air Coulson said the Department had been most inconsistent In connection with septic tanks, one officer granting requests in the past and the next one objecting .strenuously tlu'rof. He moved that the application be granted. Seconded by Air Peiham. in view of the decision i,f the Department.

Air Parkbill referred to the bad -tale ol the Cemetery Hill road, and also to the absolutely disgraceful t-muli-i ion of the cemetery itself. It was in urgent need of attention. The growth of weeds mid blackberry was beyond all reason. It was urgently needed to give further assistum-e to have the •.onditions improved, i lie position was .. disgrace to the Council.
