LOAN POLL.
PROPOSAL TO BORROW £6OOO. CARRIED BY SMALL MAJORITY. The proposal of the Hokitika Borough Council to borrow the sum ot £6OOO for street improvements and drainage works was voted on yesterday. There was not a great deal of interest shown in the poil, only 328 ratepayers recording their votes, and there was only a majority of 16 in favour of tile proposal. The returning officer (Mr A. A. Andrewes) declared the result of the voting at 7.25 p.ni., there being only the Mayor and Iw6 press representatives present ta hear the result declared informally as follows: For the Loan 1”0 Against the Loan 154 ■* Informal 4 ’ Majority for pro)sisal 16 '-There were no speeches, ’a fornial motion to the Returning Officer being recorded.
