Play for the singles championship of the local Bowling Club is now ill lull swing, each evening, a number of
games being played. The green is quite a popular resort these evenings, proving a cool retreat after the heat of the day.
The warm weather of the past day or two has caused the young people to mark their appreciation of the reopening of the .Municipal Baths, a large number* of both sexes availing themselves of the opportunity to have a •doling dip. The baths have a very lively appearance throughout the days especially in the afternoon and evenings. At one time yesterday there were over 70 disporting themselves.

The death took place at lleeltoil oiThursday morning of Mr '-buries Richard Davies, a well known citizen, after an illness extending over a long time. The deceased, who was a native of Tasmania, and -13 years of age, had been a resident on the Coast lor a long time, and before coming to Reefton was engaged coal mining at Blackball. He was a. staunch Labourite, and was ever a useful member of the F oaf toil School Committee and ol the Warn Masonic Lodge, Blackball. He leaves a widow and family of two. a son and daughter.
The Commissioner of Taxes draws attention of taxpayers to the notification appearing in to-day’s issue that the due date of payment of the Income-Tax N on Wednesday, the 7th. day of February. 15)23. Additional tax will accrue if the tax is not paid on or before 28th. February. 15)23. The demands will he posted from the office of the Commissioner of Taxes on or about 31st. January. 1923. Demands must he presented with all payments, and if n demand has not been received the Commissionshould be communicated with. It should he noted, however, that individuals (not companies) whose surnames commence with the letters C. I). H, I, K. Me. N. 0. P, T, \V will not receive tlieir demands until later. A special Trotting Conference is to be held s*t Wellington oil Tuesday when Air Evans will represent tin* Westland Trotting Club. The executive of the X,Z. Country Clubs’ Association is to meet at Wellington during the week to draft a. fresh constitution for the Association so as to make it of more practical use to the Country Clubs, Mr Evans will also attend the Executive Meeting. On and after February 1, West Coast sawmill workers will draw sixpence per tiny less in their pay envelopes. In accordance with a resolution passed at this week’s meeting of the Grey-Hokitikn Saw-millers’ Association, the bonus received by workers in West Coast sawmills controlled by the Association will be reduced by sixpence per day. The resolution is as follows—“ That this Association
irecognises the necessity of applying the reduction to the cost of living bonus, in accordance with the recent pronouncement of the Arbitration Court, and that all members he apprised of their duty in this respect to the community, in order to assist in a general reduction of the cost of living, ami further, that all members of the Association he advised to comply with the pronouncement of' the Court ;ts from February 1 next.” To-day a, party of ladies -• I out nil a caravan tour td Waillo Gorge.
